CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The dad who drowned saving his son has been identified as Jonathan Davis, 29, of South Euclid.

The tragic accident happened Sunday evening at the East 72nd Street pier in Cleveland.

Cleveland Police say a 9-year-old boy somehow fell into the water while the family was fishing on the E. 72nd St. Pier.

Both parents then jumped into the water to save their son.

That's when Titiana Portis says she decided to jump into the water at the East 72nd Street Pier to try to help save the boy.

"The father jumped in. He tried. He was struggling. Everybody was panicking. I figured like if this was my son I would do it. But I can't sit here and watch a child die," said Titiana Portis.

Portis said the boy and his father were struggling in the water when she got to them.

"I swam over to them. The father said just get my son out of the water. I grabbed the little boy. I kind of pushed him ahead of me. I turned around and the father was gone," added Titiana Portis. "I'm sad about the father. I'm very sad. But I did my best. But I'm glad about the son. He gets to live -- carry his father's legacy."

Portis said she's proud that she got involved, but does not think she's a hero.

"I feel for the family. Everybody keeps saying I'm a hero. I feel like the father is the hero. He died trying to save his son," said Titiana Portis.
