PRESCOTT, AZ (CBS5) -

One of the most recognizable guitarists in the world made his way on stage wearing his iconic hat. He's found on album covers for Guns N' Roses and in concerts alongside Michael Jackson and Alice Cooper. He's even on the cover of a best-selling video game.

Slash, considered by many to be a legend, drew thousands to the Prescott Rodeo grounds Sunday night. The Guns N' Roses guitarist teamed up with several other local acts to benefit those affected by June's Yarnell Hill Fire.

"It's kind of an interesting story," benefit organizer Alan Sinclair said. "The former manager of Guns N' Roses, Alan Niven, lives in Prescott."

Following a deadly June wildfire in nearby Yarnell, Niven called upon Slash to help his hometown.

The concert is working with The Wildland Firefighter Foundation, The Prescott Fire Fighter Charities, The 100 Club and displaced residents of Yarnell. The concert is expected to have raised thousands to benefit those charities.

"This is great to have Slash here and the other bands to help raise money for those who lost everything," a fan said.

Several artists from the United Kingdom also hit the stage, flying into Prescott at their own expense.

"This is a community event," organizer Heather Vincent-Niven said.

A community that hopes this event is a win-win, helping neighbors and families with rock music.
