From: The Alabama Archives and History;

After closing for several months for renovations, The Museum of Alabama re-opened Saturday, August 24th. The Museum will resume regular hours of operation, Monday-Saturday, 8:30am-4:30pm. The Land of Alabama, The First Alabamians, and the Hands-On-Gallery and Grandma's Attic will re-open to the public while construction continues on the new centerpiece exhibit, Alabama Voices, scheduled for completion by the end of 2013.

Completed renovations on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Museum include painting, plaster repair, new lighting, installation of a new portrait hanging system, and refurbishment of the Hands-On-Gallery and Grandma's Attic. In celebration of the Museum's re-opening, a day of family activities and special events in the Hands-On-Gallery is planned for Saturday, August 24th. Activities will include crafts, story time, and much more. Docent-led tours of the galleries will also be conducted throughout the day.

Construction continues on Phase II of the Museum of Alabama. The project includes constructing the Museum's new exhibit, the highly anticipated Alabama Voices.  Funded by $7 million in private funds, this exhibit will showcase Alabama's rich and diverse history from 1700 to the turn of the 21st century through the voices of the people who shaped its history. Plans for a Grand Opening will be announced in the coming months
