MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A crash involving a Madison County school bus was the finish of a drug bust turned police chase Friday.
According to the Madison Morgan County Drug Task Force, 43-year-old Ralph Laverne Moore was the target as agents moved in, and at about 3:45 p.m., tried to arrest him in the area of Wayne Road and University Drive. Sergeant Jerry King with the task force said the man refused to stop, "and led us on a lengthy pursuit."
The chase got as far as Mount Zion and Nance Road, where investigators said Moore's car smashed into the bus. At the time, there were no children on it, just the driver who was not hurt.
A second man in Moore's vehicle was taken into custody at the scene. The task force is not discussing any plans for him.
Moore, on the other hand, tried to keep going. "He fled on foot, and we were able to take him into custody without incident," said Sgt. King.
Moore has a list of charges racked up against him, including drug trafficking, attempted drug crimes, trying to elude police and reckless endangerment.
Moore is currently in the Madison County Jail. His bond is set at $587,000.
