Public hearing to be conducted on changes to special education services

The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), Special Education Services, will conduct a public hearing on the proposed changes to the Alabama Administrative Code (AAC), 290-8-9, Special Education Services.

 The purpose of the hearing is to allow public comment on the proposed changes, as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the implementing regulations that will become effective November 14, 2013.

 The public hearing will be held September 3, 2013, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the following location:

 Robert E. Lee High School

225 Ann Street

Montgomery, Alabama 36107

The proposed changes to the AAC may be downloaded - Summary of Changes. These rules were adopted as Emergency Rules on August 8, 2013, at the State Board of Education (SBE) meeting/public hearing. These rules will be adopted as final rules on October 10, 2013, at the SBE meeting. The rules will become effective 35 days later on November 14, 2013.
