GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County man feels some bad drainage problems near his home could lead to someone's injury or death. It's happening on Mount Olive Road just outside the town of Guntersville. The man said his calls to the county commission go unanswered.

Every time it rains, Mount Olive Rd. becomes deluged with water, according to Marshall Co. resident Christopher Burgett. When the water does drain, Burgett said he is left with sandbars at the edge of his yard.

For nearly two years, he said he has asked the county commission to repair the culverts around his home that cause so much water to pool over the road instead of the ditch on the other side of the road.

Burgett is concerned someone is going to get hurt. "Anytime we get a half inch of rain or more, it just floods and someone is going to get hurt because the water goes a foot and a half deep over the road here. If you're in a little car, you're not coming through it," Burgett said.

Along with the risk of hydroplaning into his yard, Burgett also said that after the rains, the standing water presents yet another problem: mosquitoes.

County Commissioner Buddy Allen said they are short-staffed, but hopes to take a look at the problem in the next few weeks.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
