RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Community tips in Franklin County landed ten people behind bars. They were busted just outside of Phil Campbell at two separate locations: one home off Highway 89 and the other off Ford Road.

Seven people are charged with manufacturing meth, and three others charged under new smurfing laws. Investigators said concerned citizens reported suspicious behavior in their communities. After further investigation, deputies were able to track down and dispose of at least two working meth labs.

Sheriff Shannon Oliver said the busts happened during the early stages of production, before the product could be sold on the streets. "These calls were made by citizens who noticed something out of the way. Most were people passing by who didn't necessarily live in the neighborhood, but saw things and reported it," Oliver said.

Oliver also said that ten children, all less than ten years of age, were present during the arrests. They have since been placed in DHR custody.
