MADISON, AL (WAFF) - Madison Police arrested a Huntsville man who was allegedly trying to lure a child Thursday morning.
Officers responded to the area of Michael Avenue around 7:30 a.m. to investigate a man who was reported trying to lure the 12-year-old girl while she was walking to the bus stop.
That girl was Sandra Barnes' daughter. She said it was a terrifying way to start her morning.
"I got a call from Madison Police telling me that my daughter was at school and the police were getting ready to interview her and that I needed to get up there because someone was trying to abduct her," she said.
Barnes said that she doesn't know Jimenez, but her daughter has said that she's seen him in the area in the past. She said that what started out as whistling toward her daughter quickly escalated.
"It got to the point where the guy was trying to get her to come in his car," she said. "He was asking her where she wanted to go and saying come with me I'll take you and making sexual gestures."
Police say the Jimenez reportedly followed the girl in his vehicle to the bus stop. The girl got on the bus and reported the suspicious activity to the bus driver, who called police.
Madison City transportation director Bobby Jackson said the driver, Lilly Lawrence, has been a driver with the school system for four years. He says they are trained to handle situations like this.
"She did exactly what she was supposed to do and I commend her for that," he said. "She was quick to do it, she didn't wait she called us just as quick as the girl told us that some man in the parking lot was chasing her."
Officers later stopped 26-year-old Lorenzo Jimenez of Huntsville, in his vehicle on Michael Avenue.
Police questioned him at the Madison Police Department and he was charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes.
Jimenez was booked into the Metro Jail on a $2,500 bond.
