Every week, we ask you to phone in your tips to Crime Stoppers. This week, the crime of the week involves the theft of a phone. A crook brazenly stole a cell phone from a convenience store owner.

The surveillance photo at the Papa Jack's convenience store on Jordan Lane in Huntsville June 7 shows a crook reaching for an iPhone that was left on the counter. Police said it belonged to the owner of the shop.

What cannot be seen from the photo is how the crook managed to distract the clerk. He spotted the phone sitting on the counter, and asked the clerk for some cigars to get him to turn around. By the time the clerk turned back around, the thief was gone, and so was the cell phone.

What he left behind will have the thief behind bars in no time. The surveillance camera was able to pick up a good look at the guy. He is wearing a gray windbreaker and a baby blue baseball cap with the letters KC on it.

Police said that after stealing the phone, the thief drove away in a white Impala, heading north on Jordan Lane.

If you know who the phone thief is, now is the time to pick up your phone and start dialing for dollars. You can make the anonymous call to 256-53-CRIME (27463), or send an anonymous text or email. Instructions for doing so are on our Crime Stoppers page.
