HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An incident review board cleared a Huntsville police officer involved in a shooting that happened on Slaughter Road.

On Tuesday, the review board heard testimony and examined evidence in relation to the shooting.

On August 9th, police responded to the 1800 block of Slaughter Road. Authorities said a suspect, 57-year-old Brent Dotson, produced a gun and fired. According to police, the officer involved fired his weapon when Dotson took out the gun.

Dotson was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. A coroner ruled the cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The board concluded the officer's actions were within department policies and the officer returned to full duty.
