Decatur murder suspect faces judge

Posted: Updated:
DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

One of the three men charged in murder of Jamie Travers faced a judge Tuesday, and learned his case will go before a grand jury. The judge heard evidence in the case against Ryan Caudle, then ruled the case be sent to the grand jury.

A Decatur Police investigator testified that Caudle and Dewayne Hicks went into the victim's home to rob him of money and marijuana. During the robbery attempt, Travers was shot and killed.

A third man, Charles Makekau, is also charged with capital murder. Police said he was the victim's roommate, and had set up the attempted robbery. The investigator testified Hicks told police that Caudle told him Makekau provided the alarm code, and said he would make sure the door was unlocked.

Makekau was not at the home when the shooting happened.

Last week, the judge bound the cases against Hicks and Makekau to the grand jury.
