No firearms allowed on school buses

State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice sent out a reminder in August that no guns are allowed at school.

This rule applies to all school employees, including school bus drivers. Dr. Bice said schools must enforce existing policies that ban firearms at schools, no matter what the new gun law says. Dr. Bice encouraged school officials to post a sign explicitly saying no guns are allowed.

School buses are also off limits when it comes to firearms. Madison County schools Director of Operations Dan Evans handles all school bus operations. Evans said "Schools are a gun-free zone. Buses are an extension of the school, so firearms are not allowed."

These measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the students.
