NEW MARKET, AL (WAFF) -

A mobile home in New Market that was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon was owned by a relative whose grandson was killed in an unrelated incident earlier in the day.

A neighbor reported the fire at a mobile home on the 200 block of Hillsboro Drive around noon. She said she heard a booming noise and then saw smoke.

The home was completely destroyed. Investigators believed the home was vacant. A cause has not been determined.

A man on the scene who said his mother owned the property, was discovered to be the father of Joshua J. Maples, the man who was killed earlier Sunday morning in a motorcycle accident.
