Auburn safety Demetruce McNeal has been arrested for possession of marijuana and released from the team.

Online jail records Saturday show McNeal was jailed on $500 bond, along with former Auburn players Jonathan Evans and Jawara White.

Officials with the Lee County jail and Sheriff's department declined to release any information on the arrests or whether the three had posted bond.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn says he learned about the arrest Saturday morning.

"After visiting with Demetruce, I made the decision to dismiss him from our team. We have high expectations both on and off the field for our players."

The College Park, Georgia native was second on the team with 90 tackles last season and selected fourth team preseason all-SEC.

McNeal missed some practices during the spring for personal reasons.
