Former pastor indicted for murder, attempted murder

BIRMINGHAM , AL (WAFF) -

A former Methodist pastor, who served churches in Decatur and Huntsville, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury.

Terry Greer is charged with murder and attempted murder.

Police say he shot his wife and daughter in the family's Gardendale home in January. Terry's wife Lisa died. The couple's daughter Suzanna survived.

Investigators say Suzanna got the gun away from her father and ran to a neighbor's house for help.

At the time of the attacks, Greer was serving as pastor of the Gardendale-Mt. Vernon Methodist Church.

Greer previously served as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Decatur. He also served as on Redstone Arsenal and at Latham Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntsville.

Lisa Greer was from Scottsboro and taught at Decatur City Schools from 2002-2012.

Greer has a hearing in Jefferson County on September 16. He's being held without bond.
