NEW MARKET, AL (WAFF) -

The first day of school for most kids is this coming Monday. That means a lot of parents are heading out to back-to-school events in the next few days.

One Madison County school is going above and beyond to make back to school night an event for the entire community.

New Market School is hosting their open house Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. In addition to the usual grind of parents and kids meeting teachers and getting up to speed on the upcoming year, the school is offering several important services for students, and anyone in New Market.

"We have 54 percent of our students below the poverty level, so the community thought it'd be great to help our families have clothes for the kids, and we have all kinds of things donated from jeans to sweatshirts, T-shirts. Everything that they need, they'll have a chance to come get that for free tonight," said Principal Mark Minksey.

There's also free adult health screenings for the community, and free haircuts and vaccinations for students.
