Burn ban "conditionally lifted" in DeSoto Parish

Posted: Updated:
DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

The ban on outdoor burning has been "conditionally lifted" in DeSoto Parish, more than a month after it was ordered due to lack of rainfall and the resulting risk of fires.

On August 15, DeSoto become the first parish in northwest Louisiana this summer to ban outdoor burning, but as of Tuesday, September 24, it's up to the fire districts within the parish to decided whether to leave it in place or allow outdoor burning.

That's according to DeSoto Parish Police Jury President B.D. Mitchell.

Residents should contact their respective fire district to find out whether it is safe to burn at their location.

Residents are also reminded that even if burning is authorized on their fire district, a burn permit still needs to be obtained. That can be done by calling (800) 600-2876.
