Family of murder victim speaks out against domestic violence

COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A family is speaking out about a Shoals woman who was brutally stabbed and left in a field.

Investigators said Jessica Broadfoot's body had more than two dozen stabbed wounds. According to authorities, Homajean "Lee" Grisham killed Broadfoot in the cab of his truck while driving.

Grisham has been charged with capital murder, his case sent to a grand jury.

Jessica Broadfoot's mother said they were waiting for her at a karaoke event the night she was killed. When she never showed up, they knew something was wrong.

"You have happy tears and you have sad tears, it's just part I guess of grieving because you're not supposed to bury you're children, that's not something that's supposed to happen," said Jessica's mother, Carole Liles.

Six weeks have passed since Jessica Broadfoot's murder. Her family said the young mother of two had a personality to fill a room.

"Jessica was the kind of person that cared about everyone before she cared about herself. When she walked into a room she smiled and she lights up the whole room and if you ever met her you did not forget her"

Carole said it's a daily struggle to cope with her daughter's death. She said it's the support from friends and the community who are helping them move forward.

Jessica's family said they plan to become activists against domestic violence and they hope her story will help save the lives of others.
