HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Donations for scholarships are slowly coming in to help send children in failing public schools to private schools.

Officials at the Department of Revenue said they didn't have an expectation as to how much would come in under the Accountability Act, but predictions that millions would flow in turned out to be premature.

The scholarship program has been up and running for about twelve days, and only $100,000 has been donated. Up to $25 million will be refunded to companies or individuals who donate.

"No one has come in with a significant amount of money to exhaust the $25 million yet," said Deputy Commissioner Curtis Stewart. "We just don't know when people will make donations and how much."

Corporations can donate up to 50 percent of their state taxable income. Individuals and couples are allowed to donate up to $7,500.
