TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF) -

Two of the three newly appointed board members of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame made a stop in the Shoals Friday.

Alabama Tourism Director Lee Sentell and Alabama's Director of Finance Bill Newton toured the museum. It was Newton's first visit to the Hall of Fame, currently closed to the public.

The museum has fallen on tough times due to sweeping budget cuts in recent years. Newton has been involved with the Hall of Fame since legislation was first passed creating the hall, as well as past bond issues making sure it was paid off.

"The governor recognizes this is a valuable asset for the state, and we need to do whatever we can to optimize the value of it," Newton said. "We need to make this more valuable to the state."

New board members said they are committed to preserving the Hall of Fame and restoring its value.
