OWENS CROSS ROADS, AL (WAFF) -

Tractors are heavy-duty pieces of farm equipment with an equally heavy-duty price tag: just ask one man who had them literally driven off his property.

Two pieces of machinery were stolen: an orange Kubota tractor and a 52-inch Kubota zero-turn mower, with a combined value of $35,000. The owner said the person or persons responsible scooped up the mower using the bucket of the tractor, chained it in, and then drove both off the property.

It happened at a farm on Highway 431 in Owens Cross Roads in the early morning hours of July 31. The owner, who did not wish to go on camera, said the tractor was seen heading south on Low Gap Road around 7:30 that morning. He's hopeful he will get his equipment back, but he's not overly optimistic. Either way, he said he wants the person or persons who did this to be caught so they will not do this to anyone else.

Any idea who did this? There's justice in it for the owner, as well as money in it for you.

You can make an anonymous phone call to (256) 53-CRIME, or give your anonymous tips by text or email. Instructions on how to do this can be found on our Crime Stoppers page. There's a reward of up to $1,000.
