Prosecution begins case against man accused of shooting son

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Prosecutors are spelling out their case against a Marshall County man accused of killing his own son. J.C. Samuels is charged with murder for the death of his son, Greg.

Investigators took the stand during the trial Wednesday. The jury then got to hear J.C. Samuels talking to them shortly after the shooting took place.

Samuels is on trial for the September 2009 shooting death of Greg Samuels in Guntersville. Samuels's body was found in the yard of the Robert Circle home where he lived. He died from a single gunshot. In an interview with police, the elder Samuels said it wasn't long after his son moved in with him that the pair began arguing. Samuels said his son repeatedly told him he was going to "bash his face in."

Although it had been eight years since he had been in trouble, Samuels told the investigator his wife at one time had a protective order against him, and he had previously been arrested for domestic violence. On the day in question, Samuels said he tried to shoot his son in the stomach. He said he guessed he stumbled, and the shot hit his son in the chest. He then said he's better off where he's at.

The State continues to present their case this week.
