ARAB, AL (WAFF) -

People in Arab are taking their concerns over the animal shelter to city leaders. The mayor is holding a forum to get the residents' input.

Arab mayor, Bob Joslin, is hoping for a positive outcome after recent social media criticism of the city's animal shelter. Criticisms include accountability, not vaccinating animals, no spay or neuter program, among other things.

Mayor Joslin said all that is required of the shelter is to put the animal up for up to seven days to try to find the animal's owner. After that, the animal can be humanely euthanized.

But the mayor said he's an animal lover and they do try to adopt as many as they can. Joslin is hoping to partner with volunteers willing to work toward making for a better shelter.

"I'm behind a spay and neuter program but the city is not in the position to fund that sort of program.  If we can get that done with donations or people working in that area to help us out yeah we'll have a spay and neuter program because that's one of the ways to control the population of the animals running around," said Joslin.

That meeting is being held in the courtroom at city hall.
