They met at a local McDonald's restaurant where the woman handed over $1,200 for the phones...or so she thought.
The Herald Sun said the buyer did not check inside the boxes after paying or before leaving the restaurant. When she got home, she found out the boxes contained real apples - the ones you eat, not the ones you talk into.
Police in the Crime Prevention Unit in Upper Mount Gravatt cautioned people to be careful when buying things online.
"Don't stay away because most people are doing the right thing, but be smart about what you buy," senior constable Jess Hopkin told the Herald Sun. "If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
"It's really just common sense."
