COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Convicted killer Ronald Weems' request for a new trial has been denied.

Weems filed a motion for mistrial after being sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Amanda Taylor, plus ten years for abuse of a corpse.

Weems strangled Taylor in the basement of his Colbert County home and then dismembered her body. He was found guilty of Taylor's murder in May.

Weems said he should get a new trial because his attorney was friendly with people who knew the victim.
