Man warns about imposter on Craigslist

A sheriff's department investigator in Jackson County said he almost got scammed by someone wanting to buy his motorcycle on Craigslist.

Tony Baker said he only wanted to sell his motorcycle. Recently, he received a text from someone out-of-state who said they wanted to purchase his motorcycle.

The interested party only wanted to text which concerned Baker, so he informed him he was a law enforcement officer.

The texter said they still wanted his bike and was willing to send the money via PayPal.

Baker received one email confirmation presumably from paypal for the money for his bike and a second for $1,000 to cover the shipping.

The texter wanted Baker to first send the shipping money to the shipper but when he checked with his bank, the money wasn't in his account so he contacted PayPal and got a startling discovery when he gave them the transaction number from the email.

"She pulls the transaction number up and she gets a surprise.  She says, actually she says ‘wow that's an actual transaction number that's valid through us but there's no content with it,'" said Baker.

Baker said he's glad he paid attention to the advice he gives others…make sure the money is in your account first before continuing with the transaction.

Baker said his bike is still for sale.
