And, finally, a few of you asked for a Lurleen Mandi-Beth update. ‘Tis sad the news, but I digress…Lurleen Mandi-Beth, affectionately known as LMB here at the yard, has had a rough go of adjusting to the baseball life and the long hours involved. Every day Wireless Mike comes in with a story about how she struggles with the hours he puts in and why he's always at the stadium. I know, I know, yadd, yadda, yadda…But I think it all came to a boil this week. Mike came in smiling two days ago like he just won the lottery.
Me: What's so good in your life? There's rain in the forecast."
WM (that's Wireless Mike): I came home from work last night and LMB was gone!
Me: Gone! Whatd'ya mean gone? You just got married this past spring!
WM: Gone, I tell ya. Gone.
It sounded more like Gahn, but that's the West Virginia in him coming out.
Mike continued: I came home last night and there was a note taped to the front of the refrigerator. It said: "Mike…It's not working! I'm going home to Ma."
Me: Are you kidding me…she's gone?
WM: Yeah, but she's crazy. I opened the door and the beer was ice cold, freezer had ice…I don't know what she was talking about, but it was working like a champ, so I just cooked dinner for one and enjoyed the peace and quiet for once. I imagine she'll be back when I tell her it's still working. But I'll wait a few more days.
And that's the way it is in the land of LMB and Wireless Mike.
