Cullman County, AL (WAFF) -

The Cullman County School Board responded to allegations from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, by taking measures to make it clear that a prayer caravan is a community event and not sponsored by the school.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) sent several letters to the district asking them to cancel the event which is organized by Superintendent Billy Coleman.

On Tuesday night, the board adopted a resolution that makes it clear the district does not sponsor the activity.

"We're going to do what's right and do what we need to do to make sure everybody realizes that is a community event. I try to act like a Christian in everything that I do. But I don't try to force anybody. 33 1/2 years of evidence and nobody has ever complained about anything," said Coleman.

Schools officials said they are also looking into other issues brought up by the FFRF, like saying prayers over the load speaker and bringing in church leaders to talk about Christianity with kids.

The attorney for the FFRF said they have received eight complaints about the district. The attorney said he's confident they'll be able to work with the district to resolve all the issues.
