80-year-old hospital patient arrested on assault charges

Posted: Updated:

An elderly patient went from the hospital to the jail after he allegedly assaulted a hospital staff member and a police officer.

George Loyd Clark, 80 of Albertville, is now in the Marshall County Jail on two counts of second degree assault.

Boaz Police said he assaulted a technician at Marshall Medical Center South on Thursday while getting a CT scan. Officers said he became angry and put his hands around the technician's neck and pulled out her hair. According to authorities, Clark then fled outside of the hospital where he confronted police and struck one of the officers.

"He took a closed fist and struck one of my officers in the side of the face causing a superficial wound to the side of the officer's face and had to wrestle him to the ground…apparently it's not your typical eighty-year-old," said acting Boaz Police Chief, Todd Adams.

Bond for Clark is set at $5,000.
