HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Time is running out for parents who want to submit paperwork to transfer their children out of failing schools in Alabama.

The deadline to file for transfer under Alabama's Accountability Act is next week. The new law gives parents in failing schools a chance at tax breaks for private education.

Representative Jim Patterson said there are things some lawmakers would like to change about the law, but overall, it should help North Alabama.

Huntsville has nine failing schools according to the Accountability Act.
