HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Cullman County Schools Superintendent Billy Coleman is denying allegations made by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

On Friday, the FFRF accused the district of asking employees to meet in a church for in-service training. WAFF reached out to the district late Friday afternoon when we learned of the new allegation, but the district offices were already closed.

On Thursday, the FFRF accused Cullman County Schools of sanctioning a "prayer caravan" and sharing the Lord's Prayer over the public address system at at least one school. Coleman said the district did not sanction the caravan.

"This is a violation of the constitution and it is a very serious matter and the constitution needs to be complied with," said FFRF attorney Andrew Seidel. "We asked for an official response from him and we are still waiting for an official response."

Coleman said he plans to respond to the FFRF's letter by the August 2 deadline the FFRF gave him.

Parents and students are logging onto social media to voice their opinions. At least two pro-district Facebook pages have popped up since Thursday.

"I like the idea of going into the school year with prayer because we're praying to protect our children throughout the school year," said Cullman County Schools parent Kara Paschal.

The FFRF has sent letters to at least a half-dozen school districts in North Alabama in the last 36 months.
