United Way event collects school supplies for children in need

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Five thousand students in Metro Nashville Public Schools will be heading back to class next week with a load of new supplies donated by the community.

About 300 volunteers came together at Greer Stadium on Thursday to place school supplies into backpacks for the United Way's annual "Stuff the Bus" campaign.

All of their energy was focused on one goal: getting the children who are most in need off to a good start this school year.

This is the fifth year that United Way's Nashville branch has held the school supply drive, and each year it gets bigger and bigger.

Organizers tell us they collected more than 110,000 items.
