MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Investigators are looking into a burglary at a Mapco convenience store that may be tied to other burglaries.
Two men tried to take the ATM at the Mapco at Jeff and Capshaw Roads around 3 a.m. Thursday. Deputies said the men left in a white truck that matched the description of one that was stolen last week from the Madison County District 4 shed.
The offenders abandoned the truck at Chancellor Square in North Huntsville.
Deputies found one of the men and took him in for questioning. Deputies said the suspects may be the same men who broke into the FX Market in Harvest last week.
They were caught on surveillance video breaking through the front door with a hammer. They tried to get into the ATM, but couldn't, so they took off with beer and cigarettes instead.
Investigators are looking at surveillance video from that break-in and the one at the Mapco to determine if they're the same men.
The Giles County Sheriff's Department, in Tennessee, is investigating an ATM theft at a gas station in Elkton, Tennessee. On Sunday night, security video shows three men drove up in white truck, busted through the front door, chained up an ATM, and pulled it through the front door. The men loaded the ATM into the truck before pulling away. Authorities in both Alabama and Tennessee are in contact.
