First AL execution in 2 years carried out

ATMORE, AL (WAFF) -

In what was Alabama's first execution in two years, Andrew Lackey was put to death Thursday night for the 2005 killing of an Athens man.

Lackey died by lethal injection at Holman Prison in Atmore. Lackey robbed and killed 80-year-old Charles Newman in his Athens home on Halloween Night of 2005.

Lackey was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.
