FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Tuesday's heavy rain sparked flash floods in parts of Franklin County.

Emergency crews battled flooded roads and power outages for most of the afternoon. Officials said the rain fell so fast it stopped up the drains.

The First Baptist Church on Jackson Highway ended up with three inches of water in their fellowship hall. Church employees spent the afternoon cleaning it up.

City officials said the water washed the asphalt off the roadway on Green Avenue Bridge.

First responders said power has since been restored to those who lost it in the city.
