Man killed in wreck with unlicensed minor

Posted: Updated:

A Madison man was killed in a wreck involving an unlicensed minor Saturday night.

State troopers said 77-year-old David Carl Hoos of Madison was killed when the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving collided head-on with a 2001 Buick LeSabre driven by a 15-year-old unlicensed minor from Madison.

The wreck happened at 8:35 p.m. on Nance Road, just north of Madison.

Hoos died while being transported to the hospital. The driver of the Buick and the passenger were transported to Huntsville Hospital. There's no word on their condition. Investigators are not releasing the name of the minor.

Family members of the victim said they're thankful for the time they shared with Hoos. Hoos's granddaughter said he was on his way to pick her up from the airport.

State troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck. One trooper said "Nance Road is not a very big road. And apparently there was something that contributed to one of the vehicles that crossed the center line and striking other vehicle."

Investigators haven't reported what led to the crash. The teen driver has not been charged yet.
