Armed Forces Week starts Monday

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Armed Forces Week kicked off Monday in honor of those who serve our country.

Leaders from Huntsville and Madison County made the week official by signing a proclamation upholding the community's appreciation for the armed forces.

This year, the public ceremony took place at the Chamber of Commerce on Church Street at 9 a.m. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, Madison Commission Chairman Dale Strong and Madison Mayor Troy Trulock signed the proclamation.

Monday night at 6:30 p.m., the Army Materiel Command Band will perform at Big Spring Park for the city's weekly "Concerts in the Park" series. A fireworks show will follow at 8:30 p.m.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the VBC Concert Hall will hold the "Soldier Show" at 7 p.m. Tickets are for sale at the Chamber of Commerce or the John Pershing Community Center.

    A ground search ensued that lasted about four hours and covered approximately six miles, ending a few hundred yards east of Hays Mill Road where the suspects were caught in a hunting stand/shoot house.
