HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Hundreds of miles from Sanford, Florida and one week after George Zimmerman was found not guilty, folks in Huntsville are still demanding justice for Trayvon Martin.

"It's sad and I think because of the results of the verdict, it took us back so many years," said rally participant Linda Hicks.

At a rally in Big Spring Park, dozens gathered to peacefully protest that verdict.

"I think when you do anything in peace without the yelling and the screaming, you are more effective and you are heard. When you come from a place of anger, people don't hear you," said Hicks.

Some people sang, others held signs, and several spoke. They hope this rally will bring about change in their own communities.

"We are trying to bring more positive things to the community instead of our youth growing up seeing drug selling and guns," said Kathlee Henderson, founder of the newly formed Local Activist Group.

The big focus was on the kids. Those at the rally say raising awareness about racial issues is crucial.

"It's sad to say but I feel if my granddaughters are out, I want to tell them not to wear a shirt with a hood because I don't want them to be profiled. Unfortunately, I think that's what happened to Trayvon Martin," said Hicks.

Those at the rally hope racial profiling can be erased not only in Huntsville, but across the country.
