Rallies in honor of Trayvon Martin

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Demonstrators opposed to the State of Florida vs. George Zimmerman verdict rallied in Montgomery. The rally started in front of the federal courthouse around noon and then followed a march up Dexter Avenue to the state capitol.

WSFA12 News Reporter Bethany Wales was there as the city, known as the birthplace of the civil rights movement, takes an even greater responsibility for enacting change.

The rallies were organized by MSNBC talk show host Reverend Al Sharpton and his National Action Network. Sharpton is the founder of The National Action Network, an organization he says works to promote a modern civil rights agenda.

There were other rallies in Alabama today in honor of Trayvon Martin. Rallies were held in Loachapoka, Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile.
