Madison County Sheriff's Department reported multiple burglaries to vehicles early Saturday morning.

The break-ins happened around 11 p.m. Friday night in the Brandywine subdivision. One victim actually caught one of the suspects sitting in the passenger seat of her minivan, digging through the glove box. She says the teen looked right at her, then got out of the car and walked away.

As her son chased after the two suspected burglars, she discovered they had been inside her husband's truck as well. When deputies arrived, they sent canines looking for the pair and were able to apprehend them in a nearby field.

Several more cars were broken into along the intersection of Bordeaux Lane and Fourstar Lane, though not much was taken from those vehicles. The thieves seemed to target only unlocked cars.

"They didn't break any windows," said victim Kim Smitherman. "I guess it was just unlocked vehicles. We had just gotten home a few minutes before. They just pulled all of the items I had in my glove box and in the console and made a mess."

Authorities said the number of car break-ins goes up during the summer. To keep it from happening to you, always lock all doors and windows if you will be parked for any length of time. Do not leave any valuables unattended in the car, and never hide spare keys in or around the car.
