FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Students in Florence City Schools are going high-tech this school year. Hundreds of students will be getting iPads this year.

Students in grades 5-12 will be getting an iPad 2 to use for the upcoming school year. Five days have been set aside for parents or guardians to pick up their students' iPad. Parents will have to pay a $50 fee and must sign papers acknowledging proper use for the tablet.

The devices will be available for pickup beginning July 31 at the Florence City Schools Technology and Professional Development Center on Riverview Drive. The last day for pickup is August 7.

The 2013-2014 school year begins August 19.
