LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

State Troopers said two people were injured in a three-vehicle wreck on Highway 72 just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Troopers said it happened on Highway 72 West heading toward Florence. Authorities believe the driver in the first car, 69-year-old Mary Howard, hit a utility pole. The lines of the pole broke loose, sending them across the road, hitting the second vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Tiffany Boykin, and damaging the window of a third car.

Howard and Boykin were injured. Boykin was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. Troopers said she was alert and talking at the scene. Howard was transported to ECM Hospital by paramedics.

Traffic was at standstill for close to an hour while crews cleared the roadway.
