Major power outage reported in Limestone County

LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

More than 11,000 people in Limestone County were without power Wednesday. 

According to Athens Utilities, three substations went down because the feed from a transmission line was lost. Officials said an insulator failed inside a TVA owned capacitor bank causing the breaker to trip the feeds to the substations.

The substations that went down were Mount Rozell, Poplar Creek, Breeding Park. Areas impacted by the outage included Salem, Goodsprings, Coxey, Ripley, Tanner, Owens and parts of Athens.
