TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police say the man accused of a weekend murder has been arrested.

An aggravated murder warrant was issued for the arrest of David Zielinski on Sunday. Police say Zielinski shot and killed 20-year-old Michael Jackson in a west Toledo apartment Sunday afternoon.

Police say Zielinski was arrested at the Pilot gas station at East Alexis Road and Hagman Road in Toledo by the Northwest Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. Tips led police there, and they say he did not resist arrest.

Jackson was gunned down while sleeping in the apartment he shared with Amber Hayes, according to police.  Police say Hayes and Zielinski were going through a rough divorce.  In fact, Hayes filed a police report hours before police say her husband went on a rampage that cost Jackson his life.

"He's got a lot to answer for," said TPD Sgt. Joe Heffernan. "What he did was a terrible crime. It's unfortunate that Mr. Jackson lost his life. His wife, Ms. Hayes, was lucky to survive the incident. We're just happy he's off the streets."

The coroner says Jackson was shot six times, stabbed twice and badly beaten in the head and face with a gun.

Pamela Jackson, the victim's mother, was relieved when detectives told her Zielinski had been arrested.

"It was like a peace came over me, a calmness, a stillness. My heart jumped to the top of the room," she said.

Jackson also says the family plans to be at every court hearing for Zielinski.

"We're going to make sure the man is prosecuted. And we're going to make sure he gets what he deserves," she said. "He don't deserve to live, he don't deserve to be in prison. He deserves to die, like he killed my son."
