JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Friday evening, Jackson County drug agents processed an indoor growing operation in the Macedonia area. So far, over a thousand plants have been recovered across the county.

Stephen Edward Smith was arrested at his home on County Road 602 in the Macedonia area after agents said they found nearly 500 marijuana plants growing around his home. He was charged with trafficking marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The bust comes during the annual Marijuana Eradication Program. With the help of state aircraft they are able to locate plants for seizure by local law enforcement.

Down the road on County Road 477, nearly 50 plants were rounded up from a man's property there, and the search for the owner continues.

Jackson County is not alone in their efforts. Approximately 450 plants were seized this week in neighboring DeKalb County.
