Woman charged with theft of car from dealership

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - An Athens woman has been arrested after police said she stole a vehicle from a car lot.

Tammy Boyd Hand was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree theft of property. A police report stated that the owner of Tinnon's Auto Sales on Jefferson Street reported a stolen BMW worth $6,500 on June 29.

The owner told officers the original purchaser of the car became late on payments and that they had turned the vehicle in. After investigating, the owner alleged he discovered evidence that Hand had signed as the lien holder and had applied for a new title in her name.

Hand was booked at the Athens Police department and transferred to the county jail.
