LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Engineers are making progress on road repairs in Limestone County.

Crews have cleared about a dozen ditches of debris and dumped gravel in places where rain washed away parts of the road.

At the intersection of Nick David Road and McCulley Mill Road, the shoulder has been rebuilt and a tree that blocked some of the drainage access has been removed. Crews will continue to work around the clock to remove more debris and rebuild where necessary.

County Commissioner Steve Turner said they had no flooding issues with rains early Thursday morning, but they did run into other problems. "The issues came with high winds, some trees down. I think we're fine, as long as we don't get another huge rainfall like we did on the Fourth."

Turner also said because their equipment is so heavy, using it in damp areas can potentially cause a bigger mess than what they started with, so they hope Mother Nature will cooperate with the recovery effort.
