MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

A dog was found barely alive in a dumpster behind a Madison shopping center, Tuesday.

Authorities said the dog was rescued from a dumpster behind the Spencer Square shopping center on Madison Boulevard and taken to a veterinarian's office where he was nursed back to health.

Officials said the dog's ears had been cut off at some point in its life. According to a veterinarian, the dog is about three years-old and appears to have been raised or trained for dog fighting.

Rescuers named the dog "Jedi" and are working with the Madison Animal Rescue Foundation to place the dog with an organization that specializes in working with rescued Pit-bulls.

The Madison Police Department is asking for anyone with information about this dog or who may be able to identify the suspect to call the Madison Police at 256-722-7190.
