MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Montgomery Police say the woman killed in the city's 30th homicide of 2013 was sitting outside of her apartment when she was caught in an exchange of gunfire involving several adult males.

Police say 23-year-old Alicia Scott was shot and killed Tuesday night in the 900 block of Decatur Street. MPD's initial investigation indicates Scott was a bystander caught in an argument between other men.

Investigators say Scott was sitting outside of an apartment in the Patterson Court housing project when she was caught in an exchange of gunfire involving several adult males.

Witnesses on the scene told WSFA 12 News that they heard several rounds of gunfire, then saw men running with handguns away from the scene. Neighbors say Scott was a young mother whose children may have witnessed the shooting.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Police ask individuals with knowledge of this homicide to call CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP, Secret Witness at 262-4000, or the Montgomery Police Department at 625-2831.
