TONEY, AL (WAFF) -

Madison County deputies are investigating a home invasion where a family was held at gunpoint while the crooks stole from their home. It happened around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday morning on Deer Creek trail in Toney.

Homeowner, Adriane McGlathery said she heard about what happened when she got a call from her neighbor.

"Overnight my neighbor called me and said pretty much it was a home invasion," she said.  "They came in and pulled guns on all the children in the house and no, they were not underage. There was only one person who was underage."

McGlathery said she doesn't know the men who broke in her home and she hasn't had any issues in the 15 years she's lived on the street. She said those inside the home described the crime as something you would see on TV.

"They stole the car and cut off all the phone lines in the house," she said.

The thieves also stole TV's and a cell phone. None of the six people inside the home were hurt.  After a string of break-ins and burglaries in Madison County over the past few days, McGlathery has this advice for other homeowners.

"Get to know your neighbors if you don't know them," she said. "Safe guard your property, take your stuff with you. If you know that you are going to be out, don't leave it."

Madison County deputies said they've been working the case since 4 a.m. Tuesday. Since then, two arrests have been made and they said more could be on the way. McGathery said news of the arrests is comforting but she wants to make sure justice is served.

"No one should feel like they are violated. People work too hard, families work too hard," she said. "You shouldn't be a victim to anything. Nobody asked to be in this situation and people should not put other people in this situation because everybody has to work. Everybody has to provide."

The car that was stolen at the scene has since been found. Deputies said they have more people they need to speak with in connection to this crime. Once they are finished, names and mug shots of the alleged thieves will be released.
